NEMG honors Pride Month with inaugural virtual walk

From June 1 to June 30, the NEMG Diversity Equity and Inclusion Council sponsored a show of support for Pride Month and LGBTQ+ awareness by encouraging offices across all regions to “Keep the Flag Moving.” Each region was given a small rainbow flag with a pedometer attached to track steps taken by NEMG staff members. The initiative was well-received, with 33 practices participating and 639,000 steps walked. On July 29 and 30, certificates were presented to the regional winners:

“Since June is nationally recognized as Pride Month we wanted to feature an event that could get as many staff members involved as possible,” said Maria Russo, patient experience consultant, NEMG. “This was so popular, we hope to make it an annual event.”

“The NEMG Diversity Equity and Inclusion Council was excited to have our very first Pride Walk, and despite COVID, we were still able to have a modified event,” said Christine Hines, executive director, operations, NEMG. “Melissa Rampersaud, practice supervisor, came up with the idea of a virtual NEMG Pride walk to celebrate LGBTQ+ people and their contributions, and to pay respects to the struggles that have yet to be overcome. The event helped celebrate and encouraged staff to become active. I would also like to thank Maria Russo for her assistance in coordinating this event. I think our first event was successful and look forward to a yearly tradition.”
