Practice Optimization Team holds first in-person onboarding session

Optimization Team

Claudia Sammartano, senior practice optimization specialist, leads the training and organization session for staff of NEMG Urology – Warwick, RI

As part of the onboarding process at NEMG, the Practice Optimization Team ensures that clinicians and staff are trained in best practice workflows and can use Epic in the most efficient way. Traditionally, these educational meetings are conducted remotely, but NEMG Urology - Warwick, RI recently participated in the Practice Optimization Team’s first-ever in-person interactive training and optimization session. With all of the group present in one room, the session allowed discussion across roles and assistance with personalized customization.

“As a physician on-boarding with NEMG, I found the training meeting very helpful,” said Joseph Heineman, MD. “There was ample time for questions, real-time interaction within records and visual learning tools which were practical and useful. I would strongly recommend this meeting and would find future training modules helpful moving forward to strengthen efficiency within Epic.”

Kimberley Abell, clinical practice optimization specialist, and Claudia Sammartano, senior practice optimization specialist, led the effort for this session, which included customized slides and a real-time demonstration in Epic. “I felt the optimization meeting was incredibly helpful, as was the process of onboarding since my start in June,” said Emily Henault, PA. “Having had some experience with Epic and receiving training from my coworkers were helpful, but the meeting last week was a nice review. It also provided some new information. The team is eager to help and well-versed in the system. I would like to attend periodic sessions as our entire group onboards, so we can provide each other with helpful tips to make our work flow as efficient as possible.”

“Sessions like these are very beneficial for a new practice just starting out, as participants can learn how to customize Epic and learn additional features of customization not found in the standard Epic training,” said Krista Giacopassi, manager, practice optimization.

The Practice Optimization Team also engages in projects for existing practices, through their Mod Squad meetings and Process Improvement projects. For more information, contact Krista Giacopassi, 203-502-6507.
