Employees from the Bridgeport region gather in front of the Webster Bank Arena at the annual NEMG Great Thanksgiving Project
Throughout the Thanksgiving season, each Northeast Medical Group region held a community outreach initiative. Together, they collected food and clothing for those in need.
On Nov. 14, employees from the Bridgeport region came together and proudly supported the annual NEMG Great Thanksgiving Project at the Webster Bank Arena. Members of the Bridgeport community gathered at the arena to take home turkeys and other dinner items and choose from coats, hats, scarves and socks. Kim Fawcett, director of project development for the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, publicly acknowledged and thanked NEMG for its fourth year of participation.
In New London, a collection was initiated to benefit the New London Community Meal Center. A variety of items, including grocery store gift cards, coffee, napkins and large garbage bags were donated on Nov. 16.
The Greenwich region packed eight large boxes with food items for the Lower Fairfield County Food Bank. The donations were picked-up Nov. 19 and distributed to area families in need. “This was a very successful venture for the Greenwich region and I am so proud of the way we came together and showed our community teamwork and outreach, “said Jessica Morandi, practice operations manager.
Stephanie Beauton, operations manager, led the New Haven region initiative in gathering more than 600 winter coats, 150 hats and scarves and 200 pairs of gloves to keep Fair Haven School kids warm. She began this undertaking when she heard from Fair Haven School teacher Leslie Habelow that children often come to school without appropriate winter clothing. She contacted NEMG New Haven site supervisors, who placed boxes in offices and collected hundreds of items. “NEMG received a heartfelt thank you note, acknowledging the camaraderie in the community,” Beauton said. “We couldn’t be successful in any of these initiatives without the help of our supervisors. They go above and beyond to ensure that our community is taken care of.”
In the Westerly, RI region, a food drive was held to benefit the Jonnycake Center. On Nov. 16, nine boxes of canned and non-perishable food items were donated to help the center deliver warm meals throughout the area.
