NEMG Ob/Gyn group completes Lean Process Improvement project

ObGyn

(l-r): Suzanne Walters, MA; Jessica Fama, practice operations manager; Cyndie Romulus, PA; Miriam Smith, MA; Claudia Sammartano, practice optimization; Jacqueline Trenck, RN; Jessica Kim-Vaghela, DO; Cindy Fraser, practice supervisor; and Amanda Saint-Cloud, PSA III

NEMG Obstetrics and Gynecology of Westchester County is the latest group to complete the Lean Process Improvement project. Claudia Sammartano, practice optimization specialist, presented best practices for the office and clinicians. Staff roles and responsibilities were realigned and workflows were enhanced and standardized, resulting in the following improvements:

  • Further review of pre-visit planning led to the implementation of pre-charting
  • Staff members’ combined efforts increased patient outreach for screenings related to corporate objectives
  • Processes for specialty tests were reviewed and updated for efficiency

“It is not always easy to adapt to a new way of doing daily tasks,” said Amanda St. Cloud, PSA III. “The Lean Process Improvement project gave us tools to use in our daily workflow, ultimately enhancing patient care. We were able to brainstorm and establish different approaches, making everyone’s tasks easier. When I reflect on the last few weeks of our meetings, one thought comes to mind – ’better together.’ Special thanks to this multi-role team for their engagement in the project and openness to change.”
