NEMG Community Outreach Committee helps raise awareness about domestic violence

safe futures walkathon

(l-r): Sheila Marrero, MA II; Mary Rose, MA; and Kerry Morth, MA

On Oct. 6, Northeast Medical Group Community Outreach Committee (COC) members participated in the Safe Futures 2019 Annual 4K Safety Walk – a two and a half-mile trek throughout the Crystal Mall in Waterford, CT. Sponsors came from all over to show their support for the annual event that raises awareness about domestic violence.

NEMG’s Sheila Marrero, MA II, Mary Rose, MA, and Kerry Morth, MA, greeted registrants, passed out Safe Futures t-shirts and also participated in the 4K. There was a $25 fee to participate in the walk and all donations went towards sheltering women and children from domestic violence.

“Being a part of this fundraiser meant the world to me,” said Rose. “Every 15 seconds in this country someone dies from being a victim of domestic violence. I’m an advocate to help those women and children, and even some men, get themselves to safety and assist them with their transition. Not only does it cost money to shelter them, but most of them leave with only the clothes on their backs. I have a genuine love for all people, and I truly believe it’s my Godly duty to do all that I can to help.”
