Monthly dinner service supports homeless of New London

Monthly dinner service supports homeless of New London

NEMG Community Outreach Committee (COC) members from the New London region recently prepared a pork roast dinner for approximately 30 residents of the New London Homeless Hospitality Center. Each month, a different NEMG office volunteers to provide a warm meal to all in attendance. The center is a place of safety and welcome to adults facing homelessness in southeastern Connecticut. It collaborates with dozens of public and private programs and agencies to address the underlying causes of homelessness for each person and help him/her find permanent housing as quickly as possible.

“The COC has partnered with the New London Homeless Hospitality Center for almost a year now, providing meals one Saturday per month, said Kimberley Abell, clinical practice optimization specialist. “The outpouring of volunteers and the food donations collected for these events have been heart-warming, and future dinner services are already booked well past the beginning of next year. The overwhelming response and dedication shown present a truly accurate snapshot of the COC’s benevolent nature. Our hope is to gain the resources to expand this offering to other local shelters throughout fiscal year 2020.”
