NEMG takes part in Bridgeport YMCAs Healthy Kids Day

healthy kids day

On April 30, NEMG participated in the Bridgeport YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, a day of wholesome, fun activities aimed to improve children’s health and well-being. In addition to outdoor games and music, both a fire truck and police car were on display. The free event drew a tremendous turnout and attracted many families and children.

Lola Aragbada, APRN, and Coleen McLaughlin, PA, delivered well received presentations on both mental health and nutrition, respectively.

NEMG staff set up a resource table in the vendor room featuring literature on child car seats and wearing seat belts during pregnancy, as well as diabetes self-test assessments. YNHHS COVID Call Center and REACH program flyers were distributed, along with healthy food/nutrition bookmarks, “Say No to Drugs” coloring books and mini hand sanitizers.

“It was a great experience partnering with the YMCA to celebrate Healthy Kids Day,” said Nadine Mitchell, practice supervisor. “Everyone really pulled together to help make this day special, and you saw that in every child’s smile. I believe that when you give your child a healthy present, it will help them make a healthy future. I look forward to participating again next year.”

“On behalf of NEMG’s Community Outreach, I would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Lola Aragbada, APRN, Coleen McLaughlin, PA-C, Maria Alicea, diversity and inclusion manager, Andrea Waller, preventive health coordinator, Michelle De Jonge, RN, Audra Riley-Wade, RN manager, Martha Judd, coordinator, Community and Government Relations, and Nadine Mitchell, practice supervisor, for your selfless acts of volunteerism and commitment to educate and bring awareness to the members of the Bridgeport Park Ave YMCA,” said Robert Mitchell, manager, practice operations, and chair, NEMG Community Outreach. “You played an integral part in the planning, execution and success of the Healthy Kids Day events we committed to providing to our collaborating partner. The YMCA, along with NEMG and Bridgeport Hospital as collaborating partners, seek to serve our communities and share a common goal of providing programs that build healthy kids, healthy people and healthy communities. We are committed to using our available resources to reach these goals. Today was a wonderful example of the residents of the Bridgeport community coming out and supporting our efforts.”
