(l-r): Kerry Morth, MA; Lori McClain, outreach coordinator for MALTA; and Minister Mary Rose, MA

Community Outreach Committee completes backpack drive for the homeless

On March 3, Community Outreach Committee (COC) members Minister Mary Rose, MA; Tracy Cottrell, administrative associate; and Kerry Morth, MA, presented 23 backpacks filled with toiletries and personal care items to MALTA, an organization that provides outreach and assistance to the homeless of Groton, New London and Norwich.

“Everything was just wonderful,” said Cottrell, who played a large role in coordinating the event alongside Minister Rose. “Lori McClain, outreach coordinator for MALTA, was thrilled and grateful for the backpacks and filler donations.”

“I’m so grateful for all the love and support from all the NEMG facilities who donated to the backpack drive,” said Minister Rose. “We are living in a time where the need is great. It’s such a great feeling to reach out and help those with items that they are not able to purchase for themselves. We all teamed up and made it happen. What a love.”

“Our goal was to collect an amount equal to one backpack per NEMG office in the New London Region, and the challenge was more than met,” said Kim Abell, clinical optimization specialist, NEMG and New London region COC lead. “We are very blessed to have NEMG staff and COC members who are so devoted to supporting our New London homeless population during this great time of need.”
