New London practices shower generosity on family in need

Clinicians and staff from the Multispecialty Center in New London went above and beyond to help a patient and her newborn baby. Recently, Sheila Marrero, MA, was seeing a pregnant diabetes and endocrinology patient, who had developed gestational diabetes. The patient spoke only Spanish, and required Sheila to translate her healthcare needs. During visits, the conversations shifted to a personal level and eventually a friendship. Sheila learned that this patient and her husband were in need of several necessary items for their future newborn.

Sheila took it upon herself to engage colleagues from Diabetes and Endocrinology, Primary Care, Walk-In Care and Cardiology in collecting diapers, clothing, wipes, a stroller, a car seat and even a baby swing. On March 11, after a healthy birth, the new parents were invited to the Multispecialty Center, where they and baby boy, Matthew, were presented with all of the donations.

“This was a true team effort,” said Marrero. “I prayed and felt I needed to do something to help this woman. Keep up your faith, and everything will work out.” Thank you, Multispecialty Center of New London, for your outpouring of generosity.
