Completing preventive health screenings is an important focus in providing high-quality care at NEMG. NEMG exceeded targets for the majority of its quality metrics in the various bonus programs in which it is contracted. For United Medicare Advantage, NEMG reached the 4.3 HEDIS Star Rating, while ConnectiCare was a 4.21 and Aetna was a 4.1 out of 5 stars. Most measures were above targets for commercial payers. ConnectiCare reported that NEMG performed best-in-state for quality in 2018.
The clinical effort to accurately reflect the health status of the NEMG population has also produced positive results. Recent data regarding physicians and APCs who participated in HCC boot camps showed an increase in the recapturing of chronic disease codes (HCC codes) by 17 percent. Some clinicians engaged in additional small-group trainings or 1:1 coaching, which improved their scores by 22 percent and 27 percent, respectively. Continued accurate coding will assist NEMG in risk stratification, disease management program development and shared savings in the future.
