Diversity and Inclusion Council Profile - May 2019

Holly Layton, MA; and Sandra Silva, MA

This month, Northeast Medical Group recognizes two essential members of its Diversity and Inclusion Council: Holly Layton and Sandra Silva.

Holly Layton, a certified medical assistant, began working for NEMG in July 2015. Since 2016, she’s volunteered her time to several Community Outreach Committee and diversity and inclusion programs. Most recently, she was involved with “Expanding the Rainbow: Appropriate Care of the LGBTQIA+ Patient” – a presentation to teach clinicians and staff about the appropriate terminology and specific healthcare needs of the LGBTQIA+ population. “I feel honored to be involved in something like this,” she said. “Our organization recognizes the particular healthcare needs of these patients, and that makes me feel good. I feel very connected with the mission of the Diversity and Inclusion Council, so for me, it’s a perfect fit.”

Sandra Silva, a certified medical assistant, has been with NEMG for nearly four years and has been an active member of the Diversity and Inclusion Council since its inception in 2018. She’s volunteered for numerous initiatives, including: the Ronald McDonald House of CT volunteer meal program, the backpack initiative for the Youth Continuum and the NEMG Health Fair. In addition, Sandra has participated in collections for both the Thanksgiving food drive for the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County and the annual Toys for Tots toy drive. “I’m inspired by how much NEMG gives back to the community and those less fortunate,” she said. “I get a great deal of satisfaction from being a part of the positive reputation that this company has earned.”

The Diversity and Inclusion Council is instrumental in carrying out NEMG’s mission to help the communities we serve. For information or to join, contact Robert Mitchell, 203-384-5109. Watch for more information on council initiatives.
