YNHHS celebrated February Heart Month

In recognition of Heart Month in February, Yale New Haven Health’s Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) educated and celebrated with events involving inpatient and ambulatory areas throughout the system.

The month kicked off with YNHHS’ launch of Heart Month web pages that included videos on varied topics, including women’s heart health, heart failure and preventive heart health. Viewers also had the opportunity to learn more about heart disease risk factors, atrial fibrillation and genetic testing for heart conditions.

National Wear Red Day 2023 was on Friday, Feb. 3, and YNHHS’ social media channels included plenty of photos of employees in support of heart health. Additionally, heart health tips and information were posted throughout the month. Employees at several Northeast Medical Group locations joined systemwide efforts and wore red to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke.

The 2023 Greater New Haven Go Red for Women® event on Feb. 8 returned to an in-person format for the first time since 2020. This year’s signature event, titled “Heart Smart Ways to Celebrate Your Life,” featured keynote speaker Gina Barreca, PhD, author, humorist and Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor at the University of Connecticut. The event also included a fundraising appeal. The event chair was cardiologist Lisa Freed, MD, director of the Yale New Haven Hospital HVC Women’s Heart and Vascular Program.
