Northeast Medical Group - Pediatrics - Trumbull

Overview

Born and raised in the Greater Bridgeport area, Dr. Jay Esposito completed his Pediatric training at Bridgeport Hospital. He has been in practice since 1988. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is on the senior medical staff of both Bridgeport Hospital and St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Dr. Esposito's Trumbull Center office is a private solo practice affiliated with Northeast Medical Group, a premier multispecialty practice in our area. Having a solo practice allows him to maintain a personal relationship with each of the families that he cares for. His greatest pleasure is watching children grow from the infants he cared for at birth, into healthy young adults, going off into the world.

As a Fellow of the Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Esposito adheres to guidelines based on the proven safety and efficacy of preventive medicine and immunization, while avoiding unnecessary antibiotics and other medications. More than twenty years of experience in the area has allowed him to form a network of trusted pediatric specialists, both locally and regionally at the various children’s hospitals. Our office maintains regular business hours for routine calls and visits. In addition, Dr. Esposito is available to patients after hours for immediate problems by phoning his regular office number.

As a member of Northeast Medical Group, we are able to accept almost all commercial insurances and the HUSKY program. We are accepting new patients, and encourage you to come in for a prenatal visit with no cost or obligation.

First Time Parents

For first time parents, choosing a pediatrician for your baby is one of many items to take care of well before the delivery. In addition to this guide, the American Academy of Pediatrics website is a good resource. You may want to meet with pediatricians face to face before you select a doctor to care for your child. Most pediatricians offer a prenatal interview for expectant parents, and it is a good way to learn about the doctor’s philosophy and meet the office staff. A few basic questions to keep in mind will serve as a guide for the interview. The way the pediatrician answers your questions will help you make a decision about which pediatrician fits well with your approach to childcare and parenting. For example, you should inquire about the pediatrician's educational background and training:

  • Is the physician board certified in pediatrics?
  • Is the pediatrician a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics?
  • Which hospital is the pediatrician affiliated?
  • Will your pediatrician visit your newborn in the hospital after delivery?
  • What happens on nights or weekends if your child becomes ill?
  • Can you call the doctor during the day if you have questions?
  • Are well visits and immunization schedules consistent with American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines?

At the end of the interview, you should have a sense of whether the doctor’s background and communication style are a good fit for you. It is important that you feel comfortable asking questions because, as new parents, questions will crop up frequently. You should feel as if the pediatrician is a partner with you in ensuring good medical care for your child. Feeling confident in the decision you make about selecting the right pediatrician is a good place to start in finding the person who will be such an important healthcare resource for you and your child.
