Dr. Varkey is responsible for the strategic, operational, clinical and fiscal leadership of Northeast Medical Group. Prior to her current role, she was president and CEO of the Clinical Enterprise, a multispecialty group at Seton Family Healthcare, the largest health system in Austin, Texas. Dr. Varkey spent most of her career at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she was professor of medicine and preventive medicine and served in several leadership roles. A nationally recognized expert in quality improvement, she recently completed her term as president of the American College of Medical Quality. Dr. Varkey is the editor of two textbooks: Medical Quality Management: Theory and Practice
, and the Mayo Clinic Preventive Medicine and Public Health Board Review
Dr. Varkey earned her MBBS (MD equivalent) from Christian Medical College in Vellore, India; internal medicine residency at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut; and preventive medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She has a master's in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health, a master's in health professions education from the University of Illinois Chicago and an MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
