Dr. Ashton Lai, MD, PhD, is a board-certified non-invasive cardiovascular specialist with a focus on the application of advanced cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, cardiac CT, vascular ultrasound, and nuclear stress testing, to advance his patients’ health. Thorough and compassionate, he enjoys getting to know his patients and working with them to improve the quality of their lives.

Dr. Ashton Lai was born in upstate New York and was raised in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. He attended Duke University for his undergraduate degree, graduating magna cum laude and was awarded the Department of Chemistry Award upon graduation. He received a combined MD-PhD degree from Yale University, completing his PhD thesis under the direction of Dr. Craig Crews. He then completed his residency and fellowship at the Mount Sinai Hospital under the direction of Drs. Valentin Fuster and Deepak Bhatt, where he received the Fellow of the Year Award.

Dr. Ashton Lai has been published in major research journals including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the Journal of Clinical Medicine, the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, Nature Reviews, and Cell Chemical Biology. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Dr. Lai is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Spanish.
