Arlene Gutman, MD

Dr Arlene Gutman is an Obstetrics and Gynecology faculty attending at Yale New Haven Health’s Bridgeport Hospital, and Clinical Instructor for the Yale School of Medicine. Dr Gutman has always loved to teach and combined with her passion for science, she dreamed of a career in medicine since childhood. But it was a research opportunity prior to attending medical school that led her to women’s health. Dr Gutman was a clinical trial coordinator for a study that provided cervical cancer screening and gynecological treatment at no charge to women with limited access to healthcare. She had the privilege of working in a largely Spanish speaking area in South Florida, where her native Spanish tongue could ease the experience of women undergoing their first pelvic examination. Dr Gutman made it a priority to provide women with education about their own bodies and worked tirelessly to ensure that those who needed extra support obtained it.That experience led her to medical school at the University College Cork in Ireland, where she worked closely with maternal fetal medicine specialists in studying perinatal mortality and advancing obstetric care. She completed residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Bridgeport Hospital, where she is thrilled to continue her career as a faculty attending. As an obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr Gutman’s goal is to ensure she provides patient-centered care by listening to their needs and providing them treatment options that complement their individual circumstances. She is committed to preventive care, safe and reliable contraception and comprehensive family planning. She is passionate about building long term relationships with her patients and supporting them through every stage of their reproductive health, from their first pregnancy to menstrual disorders, to their menopausal symptom care and beyond. Dr Gutman considers it a privilege to be able to support women through some of the most monumental moments of their lives.
