Yale New Haven Health’s Pamela Sutton-Wallace recognized as one of Modern Healthcare’s Top Women Leaders for 2023

Monday, February 20, 2023

New Haven, CT (February 20, 2023) – Yale New Haven Health’s (YNHHS) Pamela Sutton-Wallace, MPH, has been recognized by Modern Healthcare magazine as one of the Top Women Leaders in Healthcare for 2023. Sutton-Wallace has been the chief operating officer (COO) for YNHHS since July 11, 2022.

“We knew when Pam joined our team last year that we were adding a professional with an outstanding track record in healthcare administration,” said Christopher O’Connor, YNHHS CEO. “In a relatively very short time, Pam has made a huge impact on our culture engaged with our employees both in person and through our interactive town hall meetings. She has been a tremendous resource through her experience, guidance and impactful leadership and we cannot think of a more deserving person to be recognized by Modern Healthcare than Pam.”

Among Sutton-Wallace’s contributions to YNHHS has been in helping to promote gender and racial equity. In her COO role, she is helping to drive a system-wide health equity analysis to identify disparities that may exist across sociodemographic groups. This will help the health system better understand the diversity of needs in its communities and tailor culturally accountable programming and content. Most importantly, it will identify where disparities exist in order to target quality improvement initiatives to mitigate racial and social healthcare disparities.

“I humbly receive it not for my labors alone but on behalf of the many 'Top Women' colleagues who work behind the scenes with me in this challenging industry,” said Sutton-Wallace. “I am extraordinarily grateful to my Yale New Haven Health colleagues, those especially whose devotion to health care excellence is longstanding and has continued without public recognition, and those who have recently embraced me as a respected partner in our common enterprise. To the women and men who have sponsored and mentored me over this 25-year journey, my gratitude is boundless. This award then, though given in my name, is a shared one. May all who have helped to bring distinction to my career and join me daily in this vital work feel as honored as I do by this tremendous and generous recognition”.

This prestigious recognition program acknowledges and honors women executives from all sectors of the healthcare industry for their contributions to care delivery improvement, health equity, policy and gender equity in healthcare leadership.

“The women named to our 2023 class of the Top Women Leaders in Healthcare are helping guide their organizations and improve the communities they call home,” said Mary Ellen Podmolik, editor-in-chief of Modern Healthcare. “Internally, they are innovators and team-builders advancing their organizations. They are mentoring co-workers while inspiring others to pursue careers in the industry. And externally, they are forging coalitions to improve access to care for all patients. The women we’ve selected this year, from hundreds of nominations, are leading important advancements in the nation’s healthcare system.”
