Northeast Medical Group launches OpenNotes to improve patient communication

Tuesday, October 10, 2017

New Haven, CT (October 10, 2017) – Yale New Haven Health’s Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) launched OpenNotes last week to help facilitate communication between patients and physicians. OpenNotes is an international movement advocating for providing patient access to physician notes.

Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS) went live with OpenNotes through our Epic MyChart platform earlier this month across all our NEMG physician providers can empower patients, families, and caregivers to feel more in control of their healthcare decisions, and improve the quality and safety of care. When patients log in to their MyChart accounts, they will now see physician notes in real time which can help eliminate confusion and improve individual care.

“I am very proud that we are the first community medical group to adopt OpenNotes for all our NEMG physicians,” said Prathibha Varkey, MBBS, president and CEO of NEMG. “Yale New Haven Health is committed to patient engagement and data sharing and this transparent communication between patient and provider is just more element in improving the health of our patients.”

Our 835 clinicians who serve in more than 120 locations in RI, CT and New York, saw approximately one million patients in the office and 330,000 in hospitals last year. Open Notes will enhance patients ability to proactively participate in their care with direct access to their doctors’ notes. NEMG’s launch marks the second in Connecticut and the first in Rhode Island.
Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) is a not-for-profit multispecialty medical foundation established in 2010. NEMG integrates physicians across Yale New Haven Health and helps provide more coordinated, comprehensive, safe and high quality health care for patients across the entire continuum – primary, specialty, inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitative and preventive care. NEMG represents more than 120 locations and 835 physicians and medical professionals affiliated with Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial, Westerly and Yale New Haven hospitals. www.northeastmedicalgroup.org
