Former Connecticut state senator and vice-chair of public health Gayle Slossberg joins Yale New Haven Health

New Haven, CT ( April 11, 2019) – Former Connecticut state senator and vice-chair of public health Gayle Slossberg recently joined Yale New Haven Health as the senior advisor on special projects, with an initial focus on disability inclusion, coordination and compliance for Yale New Haven Health. She will contribute to the ongoing efforts to ensure that YNHHS is meeting the needs of all patients and staff for accessible and accommodating health care services.

“We are very excited to add someone with Gayle’s extensive background to the team at Yale New Haven Health,” said William Aseltyne, Esq, chief of staff and senior vice president and General Counsel, YNHHS. “Since leaving the Senate, Gayle has been pursuing opportunities to assist health care providers enhance the accessibility of their services and programs to communities and patients in need.”

Slossberg will be responsible for assessing, developing and implementing a comprehensive plan of action that will establish Yale New Haven Health as a leader in healthcare disability inclusion.

Slossberg joins Yale New Haven Health after a distinguished career in the Connecticut State Senate having served from 2005 and 2019 as the senator for Milford, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge. During her tenure, she served as the Vice-Chairwoman of the Public Health Committee for a decade addressing a broad range of public health issues including comprehensive reform of state childhood lead poisoning laws. As Chairperson of the Human Services Committee, she oversaw the Department of Social Services, social safety net agencies and policies related to Medicaid. In her role as Chairperson of the Committee of Government Affairs and Elections and the Commission on Enhancing Agency Outcomes, Gayle assessed and formulated solutions for efficiencies in government that saved the State hundreds of millions of dollars in costs. Slossberg has a long relationship with Yale New Haven Health starting before her tenure in the Senate as a mentor to a teen mom via “Bright Beginnings,” a Yale New Haven Hospital program that brings together experienced mothers with teenage mothers-to-be.
