New Health Extensions expands on concept, content

A message from the president of Greenwich Hospital

Dear Friends,

At Greenwich Hospital and Yale New Haven Health, werecognize that your most important resource is your health. We often take our physical and mental well-being for granted– until we lose it. That is why we are constantly lookingfor ways to enhance your health, including redesigningHealth Extensions and adding exciting new features.

Our new format expands on the definition of health, which some view as merely theabsence of disease or infirmity. We believe health refers to a state of physical, mentaland social well-being. Our experts are here to help you and your loved ones achievethis status.

Health Extensions still has patient-focused stories demonstrating outstanding clinicaloutcomes. Ballerina Philomena Maggard, for example, underwent ankle surgery, enabling her to continue her passion for dancing. Wendy Muschett, who had abunion removed, no longer experiences pain performing daily activities.

We have also added new departments incorporating some of our highly skilled YaleMedicine and Yale New Haven Health healthcare professionals alongside the expertGreenwich Hospital team. In this issue’s Meet the Health Expert, Neil Floch, MD,director of Bariatric Surgery, looks at trends in weight-loss surgery. Check out theSuperfoods column for a delicious way to get antioxidants with ginger carrot soup.

Inside Greenwich Hospital highlights our new Pediatric Ambulatory Surgery Center.Community Connections details our partnership with Family Centers, which willincrease access to care for those who are most vulnerable.

Of course, health means something different to each of us. I hope this issue ofHealth Extensions encourages you to look for ways to extend your physical andmental well-being. Please remember that Greenwich Hospital is always at the readyto help you make changes, both small and large, to improve your quality of life.
