Two Public Entrances Closing at Westerly Hospital

Thursday, August 31, 2017

WESTERLY, RHODE ISLAND, August 31, 2017 – In an effort to enhance patient, visitor and staff safety, beginning Wednesday, September 20, two access points will be closed permanently to the public -- the rear entrance of the hospital, known as the Henry J. Nardone Conference Center entrance, and the “blue awning” entrance at the front of the hospital. All patients and visitors will be required to enter the hospital building through the main entrance located at the front of the hospital.

“It is best practice for hospitals to have limited entrances and exits,” said Gary Young, director of public safety. “We have already secured access points in shipping and receiving. Securing these two remaining unmonitored entrances is an important step to making Westerly Hospital as safe as possible. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with these changes.”

Both the Henry J. Nardone and “blue awning” entrances will continue to be accessible to hospital staff, physicians and volunteers. However, beginning on September 20, identification badges will be required for access.

The Henry J. Nardone Conference Center entrance will be functionable for public events.
