Yale New Haven Health and University of New Haven announce a student healthcare partnership

Wednesday, September 16, 2020

New Haven, CT (September 16, 2020) – The University of New Haven (UNH) and Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) have announced a comprehensive campus health services partnership for students and employees of UNH. The partnership will provide the university community with world-class care on campus, via telehealth, and at YNHHS facilities.

“As we continue to navigate the far-reaching impact of the global coronavirus pandemic, our paramount priority as an institution is protecting the health and well-being of all of our students,” said University of New Haven President Steven H. Kaplan. “Collaborating with the Yale New Haven Health provides us immediate access to an extraordinarily high level of care and expertise. We are confident that the support and resources provided YNHHS – combined with the comprehensive public health measures in place on our campus – will enable us to have a safe and successful semester. I would like to personally thank Dr. Varkey for her leadership in making this partnership possible.”

Northeast Medical Group (NEMG), the physician foundation of YNHHS, will provide medical directorship and strategic partnership to design and implement the expanded student health services. NEMG will enhance acute and primary care at UNH’s Nicholson Health Center on campus with expanded hours of service and a robust offering of clinical programs including COVID-19 testing, Primary Care, and Student Health.

Students will also have access to the MyChart electronic health portal for scheduling appointments in person or virtually. In addition, there are convenient Emergency Care services through two YNHH Emergency Departments and three NEMG Walk-In clinics.

“We are very excited to partner with UNH. With nearly 7,000 students on campus this fall, we are thrilled to offer world-class patient care through the largest and most comprehensive healthcare system in the state,” said Prathibha Varkey, MBBS, president and CEO NEMG and SVP, YNHHS.

YNHHS has numerous health services relationships with other Connecticut institutions, including Mitchell College, Mohegan Sun, Electric Boat, the State of Connecticut Comptroller’s Office and the Yale Athletics Department.

Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS), the largest and most comprehensive healthcare system in Connecticut, is recognized for advanced clinical care, quality, service, cost effectiveness and commitment to improving the health status of the communities it serves. YNHHS includes five hospitals – Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial, Westerly and Yale New Haven hospitals, several specialty networks and Northeast Medical Group, a non-profit medical foundation with several hundred community-based and hospital-employed physicians. YNHHS is affiliated with Yale University and Yale Medicine, the clinical practice of the Yale School of Medicine and the largest academic multi-specialty practice in New England. Yale New Haven Hospital is the primary teaching hospital of Yale School of Medicine. www.ynhhs.org
