CEO Message: October 2019

CEO Message: October 2019

Dear Colleagues:

I hope you enjoyed your summer and cherished time with friends and family.

We just closed fiscal year 2019, and I want to thank you for an incredible year. During FY2019, Northeast Medical Group experienced significant growth and expansion of services.

Collectively, we saw about 1.5 million patient encounters (inpatient and outpatient), up approximately 6% from last year. We had a 62% increase from FY2018 in online appointments, with 8,510 scheduled. And a total of 167 clinicians (106 MDs and 61 APCs) were recruited across all regions of NEMG, resulting in a 40% net growth. Additionally, our newest implementations include an NEMG-wide safety program; a standard compensation model for community and hospitalist physicians; and the Diversity and Inclusion Council, who helped NEMG donate an impressive total of 2,214 community service hours.

ACO quality metrics increased from 86.6% to 91% this past year. I am exceptionally proud to report that our outpatient engagement scores reached the 96th percentile and our hospitalist engagement scores also met stretch goals despite incredibly busy services in Bridgeport and New Haven hospitals.

October 1 marks the start of our new fiscal year, FY2020. As we expand and grow, we will continue to focus on improving as a high-performing medical group and as an employer of choice. To that extent, I would like to share NEMG’s five major business plan objectives for FY2020, summarized below.

It is only through open communication that we can become a high-performing medical group and employer of choice. On that thought, do not hesitate to provide input about your experience with NEMG. You can share your thoughts and ideas with your supervisor, a member of our leadership team or me. The “Ask the CEO” mailbox is also open for questions and comments.

Thank you again for your diligent work and dedication to our patients and NEMG through FY2019 and into our new fiscal year.

Best wishes,

Prathibha Varkey, MBBS, MPH, MHPE, MBA
