Changes in medical benefits equal employee savings

YNHHS rolls out compensation and benefits for 2018

Yale New Haven Health has announced details of its 2018 compensation and benefits program, which includes changes to medical benefits that will lower costs for selected office visits and medical procedures for employees throughout the health system and their covered dependents.

"This past year we heard loud and clear from employees that it costs too much money for medical services provided within our own health system," said Kevin A. Myatt, YNHHS senior vice president and chief human resources officer. "We are happy to announce major changes to our medical plan design. Employees and their covered dependents will no longer have deductibles and co-insurance applied to certain services within our health system."

Benefits program highlights

Components of the 2018 benefits program include:
  • No increase to employee medical premiums!
  • No deductibles or co-insurance for services billed by YNHHS hospitals or satellites.
  • More affordable co-pays to replace deductible and co-insurance for services provided at YNHHS facilities, including lab services with a $30 co-pay and no deductible; and X-rays with a $30 co-pay and no deductible (Physicians fees not included - co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance will still apply.)
  • Lower co-pays for tier 4 "specialty medications" obtained through the YNHHS Outpatient Pharmacy Services/Apothecary.
  • New preferred primary care network with providers offering high quality and value-based care. Employees and covered dependents using one of these physicians will have their office visit co-pay reduced by $10.
  • Elimination of two-year lock-in on dental plan elections. Employees will be able to change dental plans each year during open enrollment.
  • In addition to the Vision Plan currently offered, an enhanced option with a more customizable benefit will be offered.
  • Removal of full-time student requirement for dependent children over age 19 for dental and vision coverage. Dependent children can remain on our plans up to age 26 – just like the medical plan.

Compensation program highlights

  • Merit increases of up to 4 percent based on overall performance rating and pay zone. Employees at maximum pay may be eligible for a merit lump sum paid bi-weekly.
  • PIP (Performance Incentive Plan) - Eligible employees may receive up to 3 percent of salary for meeting organizational performance goals.
  • Special Achievement Awards up to 2 percent of salary for specific accomplishments demonstrating extraordinary effort.
  • YNHHS values and Standards of Professional Behavior integrated into employee performance review to replace "success factors."

Open enrollment begins Oct. 30

Open enrollment for health and related benefits is Monday, Oct. 30 through Friday, Nov. 17 at 5 pm for all employees. Employees must visit to enroll for medical coverage and other benefits. All benefits related information, materials and forms will be available on the site. While all benefits enrollment will be online and paperless, the benefits summary booklet will be mailed to employee homes to use as a reference.

Benefits fairs scheduled

Upcoming benefits fairs will offer more information from representatives from the YNHHS Benefits Office, Anthem, Aetna, CVS Caremark, Delta Dental, Vision Service Plan, Mercer Voluntary Benefits and Fidelity Investments. Representatives from YNHHS' Employee and Family Resources and livingwellCares programs, MDLIVE, and other services will also be on hand.
