On Feb. 2, NEMG employees from the New London region braved the cold to raise money for the Groton Senior Center. As part of its annual Souper Bowl Saturday event, volunteers joined both Groton Ambulance and the police department to dish out soup and cake to a sold-out crowd of 270 attendees.
Patrons purchased tickets to sample soups and desserts donated by 18 area restaurants. There was also a silent sports memorabilia auction and a raffle. Reporters were on hand and the event was featured on Fox 61 News. Due to the overwhelming success, next year’s event has already been planned for Feb. 1.
“This was the best year for attendance,” said Kathy Williams, program supervisor, Groton Senior Center. “The event ran very smoothly, thanks to all the volunteers serving, helping in the kitchen and supporting those who needed assistance.”
