CEO Message: July-August 2017
I hope you are enjoying your summer and have activities and fun trips planned with your family and friends.
Results of this year's Employee Engagement Survey are beginning to be shared across the system. Overall, they are very positive. The NEMG numbers, in particular, show great improvement from 2016. For example:
- Engagement increased above benchmark for many of NEMG's largest job roles, including Patient Service Associates (+7.9%) and Medical Assistants (+2.9%). Engagement for staff in these roles as well as other job roles not cited here are above national benchmarks.
- Physician engagement increased by more than 9%.
- Engagement efforts since the 2016 survey led to improvement in the areas of belief in the YNHHS mission, staffing, giving back to the community, job/skills match, pay, communications, promotional opportunities, and employee safety.
Including New London and Westerly employees, NEMG achieved a 5.10 out of a possible 6 Engagement Index, compared to last year's 5.03. NEMG ranks in the 63rd percentile relative to the Advisory Board's medical group benchmark.
You can read more about the survey results in this issue. I am very pleased to see such positive input because employee engagement is critical to everything we do. Engaged employees and physicians leads to engaged patients, helping us earn high scores above the national benchmarks.
The survey identified areas of opportunity, and the NEMG leadership team will be working with all of you to address them. Your past input has led to a number of enhancements throughout our network, including our clinician forums, employee town halls, community outreach, employee and family picnic, and awards programs.
Even though the survey is now closed, do not hesitate to provide input about your experience with NEMG. You can share your thoughts and ideas with your supervisor, a member of our leadership team or me. The "Ask the CEO" mailbox is also open for questions and comments. It is only through open communication that we can become a high-performing medical group and employer of choice.
Plus, stay tuned for more information about some special events, including upcoming site visits with system executive leadership team and a celebration to recognize our employees and physicians later this calendar year.
