The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Connecticut Chapter

The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) is a professional medical society, founded in 1996, (previously called the National Association of Inpatient Physicians – NAIP), with the goal of promoting high quality and high value health care for hospitalized patients. Hospital medicine is the fastest growing specialty in medicine, and the SHM is the first and only medical society devoted entirely to hospitalists and the hospital medicine movement.

The SHM provides several platforms for education, collaboration and career growth among hospitalists, through national and local meetings, special interest seminars, online resources etc. The SHM led the recent milestone achievement for hospital medicine, the “C6” specialty code designation which was implemented in April 2017. The SHM also publishes the nation’s first and only peer-reviewed journal for hospital medicine, The Journal of Hospital Medicine, and a monthly newsletter, The Hospitalist, which features updates in clinical management, public policy and a medical education library.

The Connecticut Chapter of SHM was created in July 2017 to extend the vision and values of the SHM to hospitalists in Connecticut. Regular chapter meetings bring together hospitalists throughout the state, and provide a platform for education and fellowship. The next chapter meeting will be Feb. 15, 2018 at 5:30 pm at the Trumbull Marriott Merritt Parkway for hospitalists at all levels of practice to attend and meet new colleagues.
