Greenwich Hospital’s orthopedic programs awarded national certification

Wednesday, January 18, 2023

Greenwich, CT (Jan. 18, 2023) – Greenwich Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for recertification in spinal fusion surgery as well as Advanced Certification in total hip and knee replacement surgery by demonstrating continuous compliance with performance standards.

The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. Greenwich Hospital underwent a rigorous onsite review to evaluate compliance with the latest standards of care.

“This national certification underscores our commitment to ensure we provide high quality and safe patient care,” said Diane Kelly, DNP, RN, Greenwich Hospital President.

This is the first time Greenwich Hospital has achieved the highest level of distinction by the Joint Commission for total joint replacement surgery. The Advanced Certification, offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, acknowledges that organizations provide consistent communication and collaboration among all health care providers involved in the care of the patient – from the pre-surgical consultation with the orthopedic surgeon to the intraoperative, hospital admission, rehabilitation activities, and then the follow-up visits with the surgeon.

To be eligible for Advanced Certification, organizations must implement evidence-based care and clinical practice guidelines and participate in the American Joint Replacement Registry, a national quality improvement registry for total joint care. Additionally, organizations need to collect performance measurement data on anesthesia techniques, discharges to home, ambulation on day of surgery, readmission rates, and pre-operative and post-operative patient reported outcomes.

The orthopedic surgeons at Greenwich Hospital are leaders in total joint replacement and spine surgery, helping thousands of patients to regain more active lifestyles.
